The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has temporarily closed the Eastern Bypass, Enterprise Road, and the Thika Bypass.

In a traffic advisory on Wednesday, May 1, KURA said the heavy rains experienced across the country on Tuesday night have rendered the three major roads unusable by motorists.

“Following the heavy rains experienced last night across the country, the following roads within Nairobi and Kiambu Counties have been heavily affected leading to partial closure. Enterprise road, Eastern bypass, and Thika bypass,” read the statement in part.

The Authority noted that a technical team together with traffic police officers have been deployed to the three roads to direct traffic and ensure safety.

Further, KURA warned motorists against attempting to cross the flooded sections.

“The traffic police and our technical team are on the ground to direct traffic and enhance the safety of Motorists. We shall keep you posted as the situation unfolds. Please drive safely and don’t attempt to cross flooded sections,” KURA added.

The closure of the three major roads comes after a heavy downpour rocked various parts of the country, causing floods and disruptions.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) on Tuesday closed the Embu - Meru (A9) Road at Mutunduri near Ena and the Oletepesi-Magadi Road in Kajiado County.
