Members of Parliament were compelled to turn away the Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) over inadequate responses.

The CEO Richard Omelu was kicked and asked to go and prepare sufficiently during a heated session that was chaired by Kamukunji MP Yussuf Haji at the new Bunge Towers.

Omelu was taken to task over failure to comply with the law that requires balance in the employment of staff from various ethnic communities.

"The report you have tabled before the Committee shows glaring imbalance in distribution of employment slots among ethnic communities in the country," Haji stated.

The report indicated that EPZA has only employed staff from 16 out of 47 ethnic communities in Kenya.

It was also established that the CEO had discriminated against the youth as only 38 young people have secured employment out of 173 staff, translating to only 21.97 per cent.

People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs), were also not represented in EPZA.

"Why is it that out of 173 staff, PLWDs have a representation of only 3.46 per cent against at least five per cent required by the law?" posed the Nakuru County MP Liza Chelule.

However, Omelu failed to give convincing answers over disparities in employment in the firm. His responses angered the MPs sitting in the Cohesion Committee, who gave him marching orders to vacate the chambers.
