The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is facing a looming crisis over its flag bearer choice for the 2022 presidential race.

Last week, ODM deputy party leaders; Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya declared interest in contesting the presidential race on the party’s ticket.

While Oparanya is yet to formally announce his bid, Joho made it clear that he is in the race.

His announcement appears to have irked leaders allied to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who many believe will vie for the 2022 Presidency, though he is yet to issue a formal announcement.

Speaking on Sunday, ODM Nairobi branch chairman George Aladwa noted that Odinga is the party’s presidential candidate.

According to Aladwa, Raila is the best candidate for the seat as he has proven himself over time.

“Nothing stops Raila from being the fifth President of Kenya… even a Luo has the right to be President, and so does a Kikuyu… For us, our candidate is Raila. He has consistently proved to provide leadership to the party,” he said.

Aladwa’s remark came barely a day after Joho and Suna East MP Junet Mohammed had a Twitter spat over the governor’s presidential ambition.

From their exchange, Junet appears to suggest that the party already has a preferred candidate and challenges Joho to meet them at the ballot.

“My Friend let’s meet at the ballot... @HassanAliJoho,” Junet Tweeted.

Reacting to Junet, Joho said “My friend where else did you expect us to meet if not the ballot? @JunetMohamed.”

Responding to Joho, Junet dared him to put all his cards on the table and be ready for a fight.

“Gov they say when a Hyena wants to eat it’s children it first accuses them of smelling like goats.. weka kadi zote juu ya meza..”
