President Ruto was speaking during a visit to Mathare.

President William Ruto on Monday, May 6, announced that the 40,000 evacuated households in Nairobi County will receive Sh10,000 from the government.

Speaking during his visit to Mathare, Nairobi County, the President said the money will enable the affected families to find alternative accommodation while the government works on a long-term solution for the victims.

“The 40,000 households that have been relocated, each household we are going to provide them with Sh 10,000 for alternative settlement until the government comes up with a comprehensive plan on how their lives are going to continue into the future,” said President Ruto.

The Head of State assured the flood victims that the government has put in place measures to ensure that the money is not stolen by anyone.

"That money will not be eaten by the wealthy, those who dare to mess with that money will meet me,” the President stated.

At the same time, Ruto said the government has bought enough food to ensure all the displaced families are taken care of before they get stable.

"No citizen will go hungry, we will provide enough food for every citizen until everyone is back on their feet and managing their affairs as usual,” said Ruto.

He further announced that the government has allocated Sh 1 billion to repair schools in Nairobi and other parts of the county before the schools re-open for the second term.
