PS Bitok was speaking during the second day of the NADPA Conference in Windsor.

Immigration and Citizen Services Principal Secretary Julius Bitok has announced that the new generation identity cards ecosystem will have four products.

Speaking on Wednesday, May 8 during the second day of the NADPA Conference in Windsor, Kiambu County, Bitok explained that there will be a Miasha Namba, Maisha Card, Maisha Digital ID, and the Maisha Integrated Database

“There are four products in this new digital IDs ecosystem, we have the Maisha ecosystem with the Maisha Namba given to newborns that will run across their lives, the second component is the Maisha Card which is a smart card that carries the Maisha Namba, the third one is the Maisha Digital ID that instead of carrying your physical ID you can carry your phone and use it to get services. The fourth component is the Maisha Integrated Database which connects the entire government,” he explained.

Bitok noted that the government has put in place measures for a smooth transition from the old-generation IDS to the new third-generation IDs.

At the same time, the Immigration PS assured Kenyans that the government is complying with all legal frameworks for securing their data.

“We are working closely with the Ministry of ICT to make sure that we have systems that are able to guarantee the security of data of all citizens and the private sector,” said Bitok.

He added, “ I want to assure all Kenyans that their data is safe and that the government is complying with all regulations, and legal frameworks to make sure that their data is safe.”

Bitok also noted that his department is working with the Office of the Data Protection Commission (ODPC) to conduct data impact assessments

“We are working with the Office of the Data Protection Commission. We have been able to conduct data protection impact assessments across our state department. We have conducted more than ten data protection assessments even for the digital IDs,” he remarked.
