Ruto Reveals Number Of Trees He Has Been Assigned To Plant Today

President William Ruto has revealed that he has been assigned to plant 20,000 trees as Kenya marks the National Tree Planting Day.

Speaking on Friday, May 10 during the Launch of Call Centre International Global Center in Kiambu County, Ruto said the government plans to plant a minimum of 200 million trees.

“Today we have a purpose as Kenya to plant a minimum of 200 million trees. When I am done with this function, I have been assigned to plant 20,000 trees today.

“You understand that I need some help so anybody who can plant a tree on my behalf it will go a long way in me attaining the threshold that I have been assigned,” said Ruto.

The Head of State is expected to lead the national tree planting exercise in Murang’a County while his deputy Rigathi Gachagua will be in Samburu.

Cabinet Secretaries on the other hand will lead the national tree planting drive across counties.

Interior CS Kithure Kindiki on Wednesday declared Friday, May 10, 2024, a public holiday to mark the national tree growing day and remember Kenyans who have been adversely affected by ongoing floods.

CS Kindiki mentioned that growing trees is the singular long-term solution to the climate crisis and its effects.

“Acknowledging that tree growing is the singular long-term solution to the climate crisis and its devastating effects on life and livelihoods; Now therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Public Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, declares Friday, 10th May 2024, a public holiday for purposes of countrywide tree growing activities,” the gazette notice read in part.
