President Ruto Appoints 20 New High Court Judges

President William Ruto has appointed 20 new High Court Judges following recommendations from the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

The Head of State appointed the judges in a gazette notice issued on Thursday, May 9, 2024.

The Judges include; Moses Ado Otieno, Alice Chepngetich Bett Soi, Benjamin Mwikya Musyoki, John Lolwatan Tamar, Francis Weche Andayi, Andrew Bahati Mwamuye, Julius Kipkosgei Ng’arng’ar, Wendy Kagendo Micheni, Emily Onyando Ominde and Helene Rafaela Namisi.

Others are; Alexander Muasya Muteti, Julius Mukut Nangea, Benjamin Kimani Njoroge, Caroline Jepyegen Kendagor, Stephen Nzisi Mbungi, Linus Poghon Kassan, Noel Onditi Adagi Inziani, Tabitha Ouya Wanyama, Rhoda Cherotich Rutto and Joe Omido Mkutu.

The JSC had in October 2023 advertised 20 vacancies in the office of judge of the High Court. Upon closure of the advert, 305 candidates applied for the jobs and the commission shortlisted 100 candidates.

JSC conducted interviews between April 3 and May 3 with 95 candidates showing up. Four candidates withdrew their application while one was appointed as the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary.

After the interviews, JSC nominated 20 candidates to be appointed as High Court Judges by President Ruto.

Following the appointment Khwisero Member of Parliament Christopher Aseka thanked Presidnet Ruto for appointing Francis Weche Andayi.

“I commend President Ruto for recognizing Andayi's exemplary qualities and for honoring our son of the soil with this appointment. Congratulations once again, Judge Francis Weche Andayi,” he stated.
