"Watu waachane na Moses Kuria. No way he made the decision to import maize by himself," Ngunjiri Wambugu.

Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has come to the defence of Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria over the government's plan to import maize.

In a statement on Wednesday, November 23, Wambugu said that there was no way Kuria made the decision by himself.

The former legislator claimed that the decision must have been discussed by the Cabinet which is chaired by President William Ruto.

"Watu waachane na CS Moses Kuria. No way he made the decision to import maize by himself. It must have been discussed by Cabinet. Cabinet was chaired by the President & all CSs were present. ‘Our People’ must not be targeted!" Wambugu stated.

His remarks come after a section of MPs from maize growing regions called for the summoning of Kuria for allowing the importation of maize into the country.

Led by Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, the lawmakers on Tuesday said that the move was killing the maize industry in the country.

Pokot South Member of Parliament David Pkosing warned Kuria claiming that he did not act by the law in allowing the maize importation as there needed to be public participation.

Pkosing threatened to initiate the impeachment of the CS alleging that he might be the first CS to vacate office.

"We want to tell Moses Kuria that he will be the first Cabinet Secretary to leave office and he might leave before the end of this month or before Christmas. If he continues like this we will impeach him. We will collect signatures from tomorrow," Pkosing said.
