"The 4 IEBC commissioners were accomplices to a failed coup attempt," Lawyer Nelson Havi.

Former LSK President Nelson Havi has claimed that IEBC Vice Chairperson Juliana Cherera and Commissioners Irene Masit, Francis Wanderi and Justus Nyang'aya, ought to have resigned.

In a statement on Friday, November 25, Havi said that they could have resigned the day the Supreme Court upheld President William Ruto's victory.

The lawyer stated that Cherera and the 3 IEBC commissioners were accomplices to a failed coup attempt after the four disowned the presidential results announced by IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati.

"The 4 IEBC commissioners were accomplices to a failed coup attempt. If they were wise, they ought to have resigned the day the Supreme Court determined the contest as to who between President William Ruto and Raila Odinga won the election. The principal offenders cannot help," Havi stated.

His remarks come after the hearing of the petitions filed against the four on their removal from office kicked off in Parliament on Thursday.

The process has elicited a lot of reactions with Azimio leader Raila Odinga accusing President William Ruto's government for inflicting injustice to the commissioners.

"The injustice being inflicted on the 4 IEBC commissioners, if it proceeds as currently conceived, will mark the beginning a massive push back against Ruto and those who think like him, by the people of Kenya," Raila said.

However, the Head of State hit back at the former Prime Minister, maintaining that Parliament should be allowed to hold 'rogue' officials to account.

"The lords of impunity, who destroyed oversight institutions using the handshake fraud, should allow parliament to hold rogue officials who put the nation in danger by subverting the democratic will of the people to be held to account. New order is the rule of law, not wishes of big men," the president said.
