Tuju Breaks Silence on Ruto’s Alleged Impeachment Motion

Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju has dismissed claims that the party has okayed an alleged motion to impeach Deputy President William Ruto.

Speaking on Sunday, Tuju noted that the party has no such plan, adding that those reports are mere speculation.

According to Tuju, the party leadership has never held any discussions on the alleged impeachment of DP Ruto.

“So far those are just speculations. There is no such Motion. It has not been discussed within the party. If there was such a discussion it would have been communicated to all members,” Tuju said.

Tuju made the remarks after Lugari MP Ayub Savula claimed that he had received 126 signatures from Jubilee legislators supporting his motion.

Speaking on Thursday last week, Savula; who has been spearheading the impeachment push noted that 126 MPs have already signed the motion.

According to Savula, he is now seeking an additional 106 signatures from legislators allied to the NASA coalition, in order to have the required 233 members for the motion to pass.

“I have heard our critics saying we cannot manage to impeach Ruto just because my party, ANC, does not have enough members. That is laughable because they do not understand the number of MPs from across the political divide who are supporting this motion,” he said.

Savula is optimistic that he’ll get the required numbers and eventually send Ruto home for what he terms as disrespecting his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta.

 “Kenyans voted for both Uhuru and Ruto expecting them to deliver on the promises they made during campaigns. But while the President is busy working hard to implement what they promised, his deputy is frustrating and openly opposing him. Is this the way a government operates,?” he posed.

Savula challenged DP Ruto to resign at his own will and start campaigning if he believes he has enough support to be Kenya’s next president.

“Uhuru is busy working on his legacy while his DP is frustrating him and backpedaling any gains that the President is making. He is using threats and behaving like he is in the Opposition…The most Honourable thing that he can do is to resign from the government and take on the President while in the Opposition,” he added.
