A police officer assigned with manning KCPE examinations has been found dead.

A day after the KCPE exams kicked off countrywide, police in Nyandarua County are probing an incident where an officer assigned with manning the exams was found dead in his house.

Confirming the incident on Tuesday, Nyandarua County Commissioner Amos Mariba said the officer's lifeless body was discovered by one of his colleagues, with whom they were to be on duty.

The deceased, Arvin Nzole, who was attached to Tumaini Police Station, was found dead on Tuesday morning, and Mariba stated that investigations into the incident have been launched.

The county commissioner said that the deceased failed to open his door after the colleague knocked, something that made the colleague alert other officers.

"He alerted the sergeant in charge of the station, and they forced open the door and found Mr Nzole dead on the bed. Our DCI officers are investigating the matter," Mariba stated.

He added that the police retrieved a half-empty bottle of an alcoholic drink next to Nzole's body and some medical documents that showed he was under medication.

The deceased's body was moved to the JM Memorial Hospital mortuary in Ol Kalou town.

The incident comes as the KCPE exams continued for the second day in the country, with President William Ruto assuring candidates of their safety during the period.
