Reports indicate the Kisumu Boys High School is set to be moved to a different location as the county government demolishes its current premises to create room for transformation of the CBD.

Media reports indicate that the county government is planning to use the prime land to construct malls and other modern commercial buildings.

Other establishments set to be affected include; Jua Cali market, the main bus terminus, Kisumu County referral hospital, Manyatta Arabs school, and Kisumu Girls school.

Speaking to a local daily, Kisumu County City manager Abala Wanga noted that the county is in the process of setting up an industrial park in Kibos to cater for all the affected establishments.

“We have set aside 105 acres of land. This will be one of the busiest industrial parks in Kibos, which will have schools, industries and other facilities,” he said.

The transformation of Kisumu City comes a few months before it hosts the 2021 Africities summit set to bring top African leaders to the lake-side city. The summit is set for November 2021.

Africities is the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa's (UCLG- Africa) flagship pan-African event that is held every three years in one of the five regions of Africa.

It focuses on the need for Local Africa to learn, promote and present a new approach to sustainable development. It is premised upon SDGs 11 –sustainable cities and communities which seeks to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable, and the need to address challenges that hamper the realization of the UN’s 2063 Agenda.
