Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko will face terror charges after he is discharged from the hospital.

Officers from the Anti Terror Police Unit (ATPU) have been interrogating Sonko while he is admitted.

On Tuesday, February 9, 2021, Sonko was hospitalized with stomach complications. 

During this time police officers arrested his aides and searched their houses causing panic over allegations of terrorism activities.

Nine people were arrested over claims by officers that they are training a militia group to terrorise the country.

Terror claims

Among the seized items from the suspects include knives and items including jungle camouflage military-type uniforms. The operations were carried out by the Anti-Terror Police Unit.

Reports indicated that Clifford Ouko and Benjamin Ochieng were charged at the Kahawa West Law Courts for attempting to rescue the former Governor who was impeached in November 2020.

The two were arrested on February 3 outside Kamiti after Ochieng had gone on Facebook live outside the prison.

The prosecution said the two were arrested on February 3 outside the Kamiti court where they allegedly planned to help him out.

In a sworn affidavit, the investigating officer said the duo is a threat to the stability of this country and that he has information that they have been financing terrorism activities.
