The campaign season is officially opening up early next year and many politicians are still aligning themselves and deciding which positions to vie for.

Below is a listing of women who are set to battle it out with men for county chief position;

Charity Ngilu

[Charity Ngilu]

She is currently serving her first term as Kitui governor and is expected to defend the seat in 2022. She was elected in 2017 after defeating then-incumbent Dr Julius Malombe.

She will face off with the former governor as well as other individuals who have expressed interest in the position.

Agnes Kagure

[Agnes Kagure]

Businesswoman Agnes Kagure is one of the female candidates seeking the Nairobi Gubernatorial position.

Her interest for the seat was declared as soon as ex-governor Mike Sonko was impeached and it was believed there was going to be a gubernatorial by-election in Nairobi.

Gladys Wanga

[Gladys Wanga]

She is currently serving as Homabay County Women Representative and on her second term. She is one of the women who have set their eyes on succeeding outgoing county chiefs and wants to be the next Homabay Governor.

She intends to fight it out with former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero who has since moved to Homabay, for the ODM ticket.

Susan Kihika

Susan Kihika is the senator for Nakuru, she was elected in 2017 after having served as the speaker between 2013 and 2017.

She is seeking the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket in her quest to be the next county chief. She is set to battle it out with incumbent Lee Kinyanjui who will be seeking re-election on his new party, Ubuntu People’s Forum party.

Anne Waiguru

Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru is expected to defend her seat as well. This is something she has insisted on doing, despite reports that Deputy President William Ruto could pick her as his running mate in 2022.

Some of her competitors include Kirinyaga woman rep, Purity Ngirici and Senator Charles Kibiru who is yet to declare which party he will use.

Waiguru and Ngirici will have to face off in the UDA nominations first.

Aisha Jumwa

[Aisha Jumwa]

Jumwa is the current Malindi MP and is looking to succeed Kilifi governor Amason Kingi who is set to retire in August next year.

She is set to face off stiff competition from Kilifi Senator who is set to vie for the same on an ODM ticket among other aspirants.

Ms Jumwa will be seeking the position on a UDA ticket.

Anne Kananu

The current Nairobi governor has at given instances hinted at defending the seat in 2022. Kananu who claims to have a good working relationship with President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga face off competition from Agnes Kagure, Senator Johnson Sakaja and any other people who will be in the ballot.

Purity Ngirici

She is currently serving as Kirinyaga Woman Representative in the National Assembly and has her eyes set on the county’s gubernatorial seat.

She is expected to square it out with incumbent Anne Waiguru in the UDA nominations.

Wavinya Ndeti

[Wavinya Ndeti]

Former MP Wavinya Ndeti came in second to Dr Alfred mutual in 2017 gubernatorial elections for Machakos County. She is also widely seen as the next governor of the county and is expected to face stiff competition from ex-senator Johnson Muthama who has declared that he will seek the position on a UDA party ticket.

Florence Mutua

[Florence Mutua]

Florence Mutua is among leaders who have publicly declared interest in succeeding Busia governor Sospeter Ojaamong who is serving his final term.

She is the current woman rep for Busia and is expected to face off with Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi, Nambale MP John Bunyasi, Senator Amos Wako and former Funyula MP Paul Otuoma.
