DAP-K party leader Wafula Wamunyinyi has lost a bid to defend his Kanduyi parliamentary seat.

Wamunyinyi is a senior member of the Azimio coalition and represents Western Kenya at the coalition's national governing council.

The DAP-K party leader was trounced by Ford Kenya candidate John Makali.

Area IEBC returning officer announced that Makali trounced Wamunyinyi after garnering 32,099 votes against his 20, 240.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Alfred Khang'ati got 12,970 votes. In the likely event, the Azimio council did zoning, Wamunyinyi could have stood a better chance to win.

Wamunyinyi was seeking a fourth term in office having served as the area for 15 years.

He won the seat in 2013 on a Ford Kenya ticket before joining DAP-Kenya in 2021.

A similar disappointing performance on the part of DAP K was witnessed in Tongaren constituency.

DAP-K Secretary general Eseli Simiyu lost to Ford Kenya's John Chikati who garnered 20,108 votes.

Eseli bagged n9,802 votes.
