  • The man has been missing for weeks before the mother rescued her.
  • He is currently admitted at a Machakos hospital.

It has now emerged that a woman who was pictured helping a man who appeared to be mentally sick was indeed rescuing his son from the streets.

The woman identified as Magret Atieno went viral after the Standmedia Group appealed to Kenyans to help track her.

Many had lauded Atieno for giving a helping hand to a mentally ill person. However, it has now emerged that Atieno was indeed getting her son from the streets after he went missing about three weeks ago.

Atieno, a 51-year-old mother of six, revealed that her son began exhibiting weird behavior with many assuming it was mental illness. He was taken to hospital but no illness was detected but it later emerged he was mentally unfit while in Form 2.

“By the time I found my son, I was so stressed and I was crying… I almost sat down in the street but God guided me,” said Atieno.

Currently, the student is admitted to a Machakos hospital. Reports indicate that he was a University of Nairobi student before dropping out.

Based on social media feedback, a section of Kenyans claimed to have spotted the man in various parts of the city from Makandara to Lang’ata.

“I saw this guy the previous day around CBD and he was sincerely in a pathetic condition.... well-done mama may God the glory of everything in the universe see you through,” said Msalendo Kolasko

“I used to see this guy in langata but didn't know he was such a brilliant guy from Nairobi university. Thanks to God he's found and got his roots,” stated Mathews Ondoro.

“There are so many such people in the street. Help them instead of looking for the woman who is doing it,” lamented Mūnjirū Maina Wa Maina.
