He wished the family peace of heart as they mourn their departed loved one.

"Rest in eternal peace Hon Matu Wamae. You have lived a rich life in the service of humanity. As Mathira MP, you made your mark. Your revival of the once moribund KCC is a story worth emulating. You go home empty, having poured out yourself for our society.

"For Mama Wamae and the family, rest in the knowledge that a hero has gone home to rest. Receive heartfelt condolences on my own behalf and on behalf of the Nyeri people. May the Angels of God receive your soul unto the bosom of Abraham," Kahiga said in a Facebook post.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has also sent a message of condolence to the family, relatives, and friends of Wamae.

In his message of comfort and encouragement to the family, the former President described Mzee Wamae as a hardworking and progressive Kenyan who made a significant contribution to the country’s socio-economic development.
