ODM leader Raila Odinga has endorsed David Aoko for the Matungu constituency by-election.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) said it is putting final touches on the polling exercise.

"Viva Matungu... we present Hon. David Aoko Were to you. We mean business, no insults," ODM said in a statement.

David Aoko was a member of the Orange Democratic Movement and elected to represent the Matungu Constituency in 2007.

Upcoming By-election

He will be facing late MP Justus Murunga’s widow Christabel Amunga and son Eugene Ambwere are among 15 candidates cleared by the IEBC for the upcoming by-election.

The Matungu by-election was occasioned by the death of Murunga in 2020.

IEBC has been training officials like presiding officers, clerks and party agents ahead of the mini-polls.

John Kirui, the IEBC returning officer for Matungu, said they were doing everything possible to ensure the by-election would be free and fair.

He said more than 600 IEBC officials will be deployed in various parts of the constituency to boost surveillance on the by-election day.
