Matungu Constituency Parliamentary hopeful Christabel Murunga has hit out at one of her opponents, claiming that he has been using his daughter to campaign against her.

Speaking on Sunday, Christabel claimed that Alex Lanya; UDA party candidate in the upcoming by-election ferried her candidate from Nairobi, and was using her (Vera Murunga) in his campaigns against her.

She urged Lanya to sell his manifesto to Matungu residents and desist from using personal issues during the campaigns.

According to Christabel, her decision to join the race to replace his late husband Justus Murunga was influenced by the need to complete projects initiated by Murunga.

"I am still mourning my husband, Alex Lanya has sent my daughter an air ticket to come and campaign against me, her real mother, whom I carried for nine months, he is taking advantage of a child whose father is decomposing in the grave… Why should someone use my daughter to win an election by opposing my campaigns, why is he taking advantage of Murunga's children for his own benefit, I’m so disappointed na Murunga hajalala kwa Kaburi,” she said in a video doing rounds on social media.

It is worth noting that Christabel Murunga will be going up against her step song Eugene Ambwere who is also in the race.

Other candidates in the race include; Faida Auma of Maendeleo Chap Chap, Bernard Wakoli, Peter Nabulindo (ANC), Charles Kasamani (UDP), Paul Achayo (MDG) David Were (ODM) among others.
