Kapenguria Member of Parliament Samuel Moroto was arrested on Sunday by officers from the DCI.

The MP was visiting evicted families from the controversial Trans Nzoia scheme.

Moroto was heading to Kitale before he was stopped and ordered to surrender.

“The officers blocked our car and said the MP is under arrest. The officers claimed they had a warrant of arrest dated back in 2017,” an aide of the MP was quoted by the Standard.

He is currently held at Endebess police station but the reason for his arrest is yet to be established.

The MP was in the area visiting residents who had been evicted during an operation at Chepchoina phase two.

Reports have indicated that the operation left over 600 families homeless in a bid to get rid of illegal settlers.

Most of the affected were from West Pokot who invaded the land which had been allocated to squatters over three decades ago.

Officers who were deployed ordered the families to move out before torching and destroying houses.
