Murungi congratulated and thanked Munya for his decision to stay in the President Uhuru Kenyatta administration.

Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi has broken his silence over the decision by Agriculture Cabinet Secretary (CS) Peter Munya to stay in office as CS and pass on a comeback to politics.

Murungi congratulated and thanked Munya for his decision to stay in the President Uhuru Kenyatta administration.

In a statement on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, Munya announced that he will not be pursuing the Meru gubernatorial seat, as had been earlier speculated.

Murngi admitted that Munya's decision had made his re-election straightforward as the CS was considered his toughest opponent.

“So for me as governor who was expecting him as my main competitor, I must say congratulations and thank you to him. It makes my work a bit easier,” Kiraitu said in a presser.

“We had planned a very elaborate campaign and you have heard me say before because this is going to be my last campaign. I was going to throw everything into it to ensure that I win again. So if my brother has made my life easier then this is a gift to me from God.”

Murungi similarly stated that he was looking forward to working with CS Munya in any capacity despite the pair having been pegged as rivals before.

“Even the bible says there is a time and a season for everything under the sun, so sisi tuko tayari kufanya kazi including with the CS himself and his supporters and we have no conditions,” Governor Murungi said.

Munya yesterday stated that he is eyeing a bigger role under the Azimio La Umoja coalition.
