Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja has offered help to the victims of the fire in Gikomba market where one fatality was reported.

On the morning of December 27, the said fire razed down the Kwa Mbao area leaving the traders counting losses, including a lost life.

In a bid to offer a solution to the fires that have been perennial in the sprawling market, Sakaja announced support of Ksh 2.4 million to help put up the destroyed structures.

He also stated that a fire station would be put up at the market to help the traders cope with the recurrent tragedy.

Additionally, the governor handed KSh 200, to the family of Alfred Mugo Wahome, the fatality reported out of the Tuesday tragedy.

"With Gikomba traders earlier today when I delivered support worth Ksh 2.4 million as well as 200k to the family of Alfred Mugo Wahome who unfortunately succumbed after an inferno at Gikomba," Sakaja said.

"I updated them on the progress we’ve made on the fire station whose construction will commence soon," he added.

Further, Sakaja vowed to expedite the processing of an exclusive title deed to bar land grabbers who capitalise on the fires.
