ODM has initiated the process to challenge ANC's win in Matungu in the March 4, by-election.

The ODM Party has initiated the process to challenge the March 4 Matungu by-election win of ANC's Peter Nabulindo.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna stated that David Were, who was the party's candidate in Matungu ad initiated the petition challenging ANC's win in the mini polls.

"This is the candidate's petition and some of the grounds include vote suppression and violence," Sifuna stated.

ANC deputy Party leader Ayub Savula confirmed that ODM had decided to challenge Nabulindo's win despite them being part of the National Super Alliance.

"ODM has issued an intention to file a petition against ANC's win in Matungu despite us belonging to the same coalition, Nasa," Savula stated.

ANC retained the Matungu Parliamentary seat after the March 4 victory.

Nabulindo was crowned victor of the mini polls after garnering 14,257 votes. ODM's David Were came second with 10,555 votes.

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Alex Lanya came third in the polls with 5,513 votes.

The mini-polls registered a voter turnout of 54 percent after 33,824 people turned out to cast their votes out of the registered 62,386 voters.
