Garissa IED Attack Kills Four KeNHA Staff in  Bura East, Garissa County. 

Four Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) staff have died after the vehicle they were traveling in ran over an improvised explosive device (IED) in Bura East, Garissa County on Wednesday, January 11.

According to a police report on the incident, the KeNHA staff were on a routine assessment of the LAPSSET road before their vehicle ran over an IED that was placed by suspected al-Shabab militants.

“A convoy of KeNHA engineers in 3 vehicles who were on routine assessment of the LAPSSET Road were attacked by suspected al-Shabaab elements who had placed an IED on the old LAPSSET road which exploded destroying the first vehicle completely,” the police report stated.

The other two cars who were in the convoy were forced to go back to Hailey camp after the first vehicle was completely destroyed during the attack.

The Garissa Comes days after President William Ruto said that the security officials have arrested two Al-Shabab financiers which large sums of money.

Speaking during a roundtable interview with journalists on January 5, the Head of state stated that his government is keen to deal with Al-Shabab attacks in the country.

"We have already found two who are being used as financiers, and we have found them with a lot of money,” said President Ruto.

Adding that, "We have agreed that we will increase the numbers of Special Forces to ensure that if something happens, we handle it properly.”
