Former Mukurweini Member of Parliament Kabando wa Kabando has settled on his party of choice ahead of the August 9, 2022, General Elections.

In a statement on Sunday night, March 13, 2022, Kabando announced that he had joined the Martha Karua-led Narc Kenya Party, days after decamping from Paul Muite's Safina Party.

“The #KABANDOCAMPAIGN in consultation with #Kabando4NyeriSenator supporters & well-wishers has settled for @narckenya ticket. We reiterate our resolve for CLEAN, DECENT, ISSUES-based and NONVIOLENT Campaigns,” Kabando Twitted.

Kabando further stated that his focus on the Nyeri senatorial seat is social justice, social democracy, and the war on graft.

He further expressed optimism that Nyeri voters will support his bid, under the Narc Kenya party.

“#NyeriFirst, indeed whole country, should be about electing good leaders who focus issues that interest and benefit ordinarily Kenyans. A party is simply a vehicle, not the end. Corrupt or Unqualified leaders in whatever party shouldn’t be elected,” he said in another tweet.

“Except in controversial 2017 elections, Nyeri always for fierce Independence of Thoughts, often exemplified in electing leaders on merit,” he added.

Kabando announced his exit from Safina Party on March 9, after stating that his interests would not be best served by the party.

"After consultations with #KabandoCampaign, allies, stakeholders & a review of developing political scenarios in the party vis-a-vis ideals we hold dear, we have concluded that Safina is no longer fit for #SenatorKabando bid. Further details Friday 3 pm. We thank you. #NyeriFirst,” Kabando wa Kabando tweeted.

Kabando was first elected MP in 2007 on a Safina Party ticket. In 2013, he defended his seat under The National Alliance (TNA) party ticket.

Kabando joined Jubilee in 2017 but lost in the party primaries. He claimed massive rigging in the nominations and went to the ballot as an independent.

Kabando ended up losing the elections.
