In a gazette notice published on Tuesday 17, Senate Speaker Amason Jeffah Kingi announced to the Senators the scheduled special sitting of the Senate.

“Notice is given to all Senators that pursuant to Standing Order 33(1) of the Senate Standing Orders, on request of the Senate Majority Leader and with support of the requisite number of Senators, I have appointed Thursday, 19th January 2023, as a day for a special sitting of the Senate,” read the gazette notice by KIngi.

The gazette notice detailed the key businesses to be transacted among them the swearing in of the newly elected Senator for Elgeyo Marakwet William Kipkemoi Kisang.

Kisang won the by-election held on January 5. He succeeds KiPchumba Murkomen who resigned to take up a Cabinet secretary slot in President William Ruto's Cabinet.

Another item set to be discussed by the Senate is the consideration of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2022 ( National Assembly Bills No.49 of 2022).

The bill seeks to make changes in the manner in which IEBC commissioners can be appointed into office.

The lawmakers will transact business from 10am to 12:30 pm during the morning sitting and then resume at 2:30pm until the conclusion of the business of the day.

The Senate shall thereafter stand adjourned until Tuesday, 14, February 2023 at 2:30pm when Senators will continue with regular sessions in accordance with the Senate calendar.
