Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has come under attack after he compared the alleged cost of Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccine second dose, to that of wheelbarrows being issued by the Hustler brigade.

In a tweet on Monday, Governor Mutua claimed that the second dose of Sputnik V vaccine is set to go for Sh 45,500. He noted that this can get approximately 20 wheelbarrows.

He made the comparison after it emerged that Deputy President William Ruto (founder of the Hustler Movement) was one of the prominent Kenyans who took the first dose of Sputnik vaccine.

The first dose of the Sputnik vaccine was administered in Kenya last week. Other prominent persons who took the vaccine include; Narok Senator Ledama Olekina and lawyers; Ahmednasir Abdullahi and Donald Kipkorir.

“I have heard from a reliable source of the greedy cartel that improperly imported the WADOSI Sputnik V vaccine to Kenya that now, due to the economies of demand & supply, the 2nd dose will cost a minimum of USD 455 or Kshs. 45,500 a jab (about 20+ wheelbarrows). Now you know,” he tweeted.

Reacting to Governor Mutua’s tweet, a section of netizens accused him of clout chasing, arguing that he needs to do better if he intends to be Kenya’s next president after Uhuru Kenyatta retires in 2022.
