ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna has broken his silence hours after former police spokesperson Charles Owino quit the orange party.

Mr. Owino joined the United Democratic Movement (UDM) party on Tuesday to deputise Nicholas Gumbo in the Siaya gubernatorial race.

Addressing the move by Owino, Sifuna stated that Owino was only frustrating the ODM party and might have joined UDM a long time ago.

"These ones must have joined UDM long ago but were hanging around to just make life hard for ODM," Mr Sifuna said.

Minutes after joining, Owino claimed that ODM was set on offering its ticket to Senator James Orengo who is eyeing the Siaya gubernatorial seat hence the move.

Mr. Owino joined the Raila Odinga-led ODM party on March 5 and was welcomed by Alego-Usonga branch ODM officials in Siaya town after he resigned from the public service.

“This should put to an end the wildly held allegations that I am not in ODM. Now that I have removed my police uniform, I call on my opponents to prepare for a tough battle," Mr. Owino stated upon joining ODM.
