The MPs are on a one-week retreat in Mombasa. 

Members of Parliament on Monday, January 23 walked out of an induction seminar in Mombasa over the delayed release of NG-CDF funds by the Treasury.

The lawmakers from both the Kenya Kwanza and Azimio factions threatened to paralyze all parliamentary sessions until the funds are released to their CDF accounts.

The MPs accused Treasury Cabinet Secretary Professor Njuguna Ndungu of lying to them over the disbursement of the funds.

"The Cabinet Secretary Treasury Prof Njuguna Ndung'u has been promising that we will have the NG CDF but so far no monies have been remitted to the accounts, yet we are here using billions of monies in this hotel. Yet our students and their parents who voted for us are at home. This defeats the purpose of elected as MPs," Marakwet West MP Timothy Kipchumba said.

Kasarani MP Ronald Karauri backed the decision by MPs to boycott the Mombasa retreat until the Treasury disburses the funds.

“I fully support the decision to cancel the Mombasa retreat for MPs until CDF funds for bursaries are disbursed. It is important that we prioritize the education of our school children over luxury retreats for members and resources allocated to the areas that need it the most,” Karauri wrote on Twitter.

CS Njuguna Ndungu had promised the MPs that he would release KES 2B every week subject to approval by the Attorney General.
