Irene Masit was suspended by President William Ruto on December 2022 over disputing the August 9 presidential election.

Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati has claimed that suspended commissioner Irene Masit and former commissioner Francis Wanderi were not seeing each other eye to eye.

While appearing before the Justice Aggrey Muchelule-led tribunal on Tuesday, January 24, Chebukati said that he separate the roles of the two to ensure the electoral commission works effectively.

"Masit came and told me she can't work with Commissioner Wanderi, and Wanderi also said the same about her.

"Masit said she wanted to be her team. So I split security and welfare and I gave her welfare, while Wanderi handled the security docket," Chebukati said.

The ex-IEBC chairman also alleged that commissioner Irene Masit was of the opinion that the 2022 presidential election results be moderated in favour of Raila Odinga.

"Commissioner Masit agreed with the remarks of Senator Wako and Tuju. That we should moderate the results. I said that the will of the people must be respected and live up to the oath of office," he said.

Chebukati maintained that Masit alongside the three other commissioners who have since resigned were involved in the verification and tallying of the 2022 presidential election votes despite them disputing it.
