Former Makueni Governor Professor Kivutha Kibwana has landed a new role as an advisor of the AMALI Africa Cities Leadership Program.

In a statement on Thursday, January 26, Kibwana noted that he is optimistic about the AMALI leadership program’s vision for urban growth.

“I am delighted to be an Advisor to Cohort 2023 of #AMALI Africa Cities Leadership Program. I am enthralled to learn about the leaders’ vision for our urban growth. Truly Africa’s future is tied to the development of her cities. Congrats AMALI_Cities for a successful inaugural forum,” he tweeted.

His appointment comes months after he announced his retirement from elective politics.

"Today I announced that I have quit elective politics after serving the people of Makueni Constituency (2002-2007) & Makueni County (2013-2022), and 30 years of other public services. Thanks be to God, my former students, co-workers, and those I serve," he said.

Before quitting politics Kibwana had defected to Kenya Kwanza and was part of William Ruto's legal team during the presidential election petition.

Kibwana had vied for the Makueni senate seat in the August 9 2022 general under the Muungano Party ticket but lost to Wiper party's Dan Maanzo.
