President Ruto stated that the digital identity cards will complete the Huduma Namba project which failed in the previous administration. 

President William Ruto has revealed that his government will revive the Huduma Namba project by December this year.

Speaking on Friday, January 27 during the Data Privacy Conference at KICC, President Ruto directed Information, Communication, and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo to work on creating digital identity cards for Kenyans within the next 11 months.

“I have asked the Ministry of ICT to work on a digital identity so that the big Huduma thing that never was can finally be completed and Kenyans to have a digital identity. I have ICT CS Eliud Owalo that by the end of this year, Kenyans must be able to identify themselves digitally,” President Ruto stated.

The Head of State also stated that his government will construct 100, 000 kilometers of fiber optic network to achieve universal broadband connectivity in Kenya.

“Over the next 5 years we shall construct another one hundred thousand kilometers of national l fiber optic network to achieve universal broadband connectivity in the country,” said Ruto.

He further stated that his government will enhance service delivery by digitizing and automating critical processes by migrating the majority of the services online.
