President Ruto last week on Monday claimed that the Azimio protest rallies are financed by cartels in the coffee, tea and milk sectors.

President William Ruto has warned Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance financiers against evading tax.

Speaking on Monday, January 30 during the National Assembly Post Election Seminar in Mombasa, the Head of State said that nobody would be exempted from paying tax.

“We cannot continue to operate in a space where those in power exempt themselves from paying taxes using all manner of instruments while those who do not have as much power pay tax. The good people who are used to exempting themselves from paying tax their day is up and every citizen must pay tax.

The President singled out Azimio la Umoja financiers and warned them that they must pay tax even if they finance the opposition demonstrations.

“It doesn’t matter even if they sponsor demonstrations so that they don’t pay tax, I want to promise them they will pay tax. No more exemptions, this country is not an animal farm where some are more equal than the others, “Ruto added.

His remarks come days after he claimed that the Azimio protest rallies are financed by cartels in the coffee, tea and milk sectors.

“We said that all those cartels and brokers are in the tea, coffee and milk sectors. Now, they are the ones financing these protests because we have said we will chase away the cartels,” he said on Monday, January 23.
