Several such incidents have occurred in various parts of the country over the years, with the Al Shabab terrorist group being linked to them.

Three Police Officers have lost their lives and six others injured after their vehicle ran over an improvised explosive device (IED) in Garissa County on Tuesday, February 14.

Dadaab Deputy County Commissioner Kipkirui Siele has confirmed the incident, which happened in Alango-Arba area near Saretho.

According to Siele the police officers are attached to the Border Patrol Unit (BPU) and were traveling from Abdi Suku camp in Daadab to Garissa.

Several such incidents have occurred in various parts of the country over the years, with the Al Shabab terrorist group being linked to them.

This is the second IED attack in 2023 after four Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) workers were killed on January 11 after their pick-up overran an IED at Hailey, in Bura East constituency.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki stated last week that the fight against terrorism has been intensified.

“We have disrupted many terror plots at source, neutralised and/or arrested dozens of suspected terrorists, and destroyed a huge cache of weapons and explosives that could have badly harmed our people if they were not intercepted.

“The current crackdown on al-shabaab terror cells in Somalia which is spearheaded by local community leaders with the support of the Federal Government of Somalia has tremendously weakened this militant group,” Kindiki stated while giving his update on the country’s security in the past 100 days.
