Former Kenya sevens rugby player Alex Olaba Mahaga has been arrested over claims of attempted murder of a witness in a rape case he is facing.

According to the police, Olaba was arrested on Thursday night in Nairobi West as he was planning to murder a key witness in the case.

Detectives reportedly went undercover and approached Olaba after receiving information that he was plotting to murder a key witness.

An undercover detective reportedly met Olaba and deliberated on the plans before he was arrested.

Following the arrest, police managed to recover two mobile phones from the accused which are currently undergoing investigations.

Speaking after the arrest, Olaba reportedly told the police that he had been possessed by satanic spirits.


He is expected to be presented in court today over charges of attempted murder.

Olaba and his ex-teammate Frank Wanyama were arrested in 2018 over claims of gang rape.

They were presented to court and released on a Sh300,000 cash bail after pleading not guilty.

While being released on bail, Milimani Law Court magistrate Zainab Abdul warned them not to interfere with witnesses failure to which their bail would be cancelled.

Prior to the case, Olaba and Wanyama had excellent rugby careers playing for Kenya Harlequins in the local league and national team Kenya Sevens in International tournaments.
