  • Oparanya has met Ruto severally, creating speculation that he may work with the DP in 2022.

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has requested ODM leader Raila Odinga to support his 2022 presidential bid even as he seeks support from other leaders across the country.

In a tweet on Saturday night, Oparanya noted that with Raila’s support, he is confident of becoming Kenya’s next president.

“I humbly request my PL former PM Hon @RailaOdinga to support my presidential bid in the 2022 General Elections. With his support, my development record, and reaching out to other national leaders for their support, I am confident of becoming the fifth President of this Country,” Oparanya tweeted.

Meanwhile, Governor Oparanya has been holding meetings with Deputy President Willam Ruto and other senior political leaders in the country.

In the past week, Oparanya met Wiper leader Alonzo Musyoka, adding that he would also love to meet ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“…I also want to meet the President and leaders of other parties, among them Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula, to discuss the same,” he said.

Justifying his meetings with DP Ruto, Oparanya said the second in command enjoys massive following in the Rift Valley region, and as such, he cannot be ignored.

“You can be his enemy, but the Deputy President is my friend. Kenyans should allow leaders to express themselves and talk freely.

“I cannot ignore Ruto. He has his people intact. Nobody can beat him in Rift Valley,” he opined.
