Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has tabled a censure motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in the Senate.

In an update via Twitter on Wednesday, March 1, Sifuna slammed DP Gachagua's recent remarks that the Kenya Kwanza Government will favor those who voted for President William Ruto over those in opposition.

The ODM secretary General argued that Raila Odinga won in most of the counties during the 2022 general election, representing 61 percent of the Kenyan population.

“Baba won 27 of the 47 Counties. Those Counties represent 61% of Kenya’s Population and 63% of the Country’s economic output. This is why we cannot be ignored and it is why I have brought a motion of censure against Rigathi Gachagua before the Senate,” Sifuna stated.

Gachagua on Sunday, February 19 in Kericho equaled the people who voted for Kenya Kwanza as the majority stakeholders in the current Government.

"This Government is like a company guaranteed by shares. There are those with many shares and those with few shares. Therefore those who voted for us and supported us must enjoy the benefits first," he said.

The motion will be debated by Senators once approved by Speaker Amason Kingi. It is however likely to fail as the Kenya Kwanza coalition boasts the Senate majority.
