The ceremony held at the newly launched Uhuru Gardens saw key government dignitaries attend.

After keeping off from the public eye for the last two weeks, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka resurfaced during the Madaraka Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens Nairobi.

The Wiper leader, who was seated close to Narck Kenya Leader Martha Karua, ODM leader Raila Odinga and his wife Mama Ida Odinga was visibly elated while shaking hands with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Uhuru is said to be enjoying close ties with Kalonzo and he is believed to have played a crucial role in his looming re-entry to the Azimio Coalition.

In a statement about the Madaraka Day celebrations, the Former Vice president paid tribute to Kenyans for attaining self-rule.

"We Acknowledge; We Honour; We are very Proud of; We are especially Respectful of; We are committed to; and, We duly Recognise our foremost Internal Self Rule Day. Happy Madaraka Day," he tweeted.

During Madaraka Day, only President Uhuru Kenyatta and His Serra Leone counterpart Julius Bio addressed the nation.

The 59th Madaraka Day celebrations were Uhuru's last as the sitting president.

The ceremony held at the newly launched Uhuru Gardens saw key government dignitaries attend.

Among them were First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto, His wife Mama Rachael Ruto, ODM leader Raila Odinga, Mama Ngina Kenyatta, CJ Martha Koome, Parliament speakers Ken Lusaka(Senate) and Justin Muturi (National Assembly) among others.

Ruto made headlines after he was denied a chance to speak considering it has been a tradition that he would address first before welcoming Uhuru to talk to the nation.
