A petitioner has moved to court seeking orders to compel IEBC to bar the senator from running for Kakamega gubernatorial seat.

Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala could be in for a fresh court tussle after a petitioner moved to court to block his bid for the Kakamega gubernatorial seat.

Fred Muga, a resident of Kakamega County, moved to Milimani High Court on Friday, June 3, to seek orders to compel IEBC to bar Malala from running for the seat due to his academic qualifications.

In his application, Muga stated that the Senator’s academic qualifications are questionable and therefore IEBC should not clear him to run in August.

“He is not aware himself when he joined the university. He is not also aware when he graduated. He’s also giving contradictory statements on when upon graduation when he received his certificate,” the petitioner told the press.

The matter was filed as urgent and Muga was waiting for the direction of the court. This comes after Malala a few days ago took to his social media pages to share his academic credentials.

The lawmaker shared copies of his certified KCSE and University certificate adding that his documents have been certified and given a clean bill of health by the Commission for University Education (CUE).

"The Commission for University Education (CUE) has duly certified and recognized my academic credentials and henceforth advised the IEBC to clear me to contest in the August 2022 gubernatorial election, Kakamega county. Those who cherish in propaganda, feel ashamed. Attached are the true copies of my academic accolades," he stated.

According to the certificates shared, Malala is a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems and Technology graduate, having completed his studies and was officially handed over his degree in August 2019.
