Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has been restricted from accessing the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) by anti-riot police officers.

Chaos erupted on Monday, March 20 at Serena Hotel as Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga was trying to access the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD). 

The Anti-riot police officers used teargas and water cannons to force the former Prime Minister and his convoy from accessing the CBD.

Raila and his entourage changed their route and headed to Kamukunji Grounds.

The opposition chief in an update via Twitter earlier stated that it's important to deal with issues that benefit ordinary citizens.

“It is of utmost importance that we rein in the runaway high cost of living for the benefit of ordinary citizens of our nation. This issue motivates us and keeps us going. Today is the day for truth and justice,” said Raila.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua while speaking in Mombasa pleaded with the ODM leader to stop holding protests noting that they would hurt the Kenyan economy.

“We want to urge these people (Azimio) to call off the chaos and mayhem this afternoon because what they are doing is destroying our economy,” Gachagua stated.

He added, “The economy had begun showing signs of recovery and we were getting a lot of affirmation from international financial players and other partners but the events that are being organized by the opposition are not good for business and the economy. We want to ask the organizers to call off the chaos so that those who did not open their businesses can go back to work.”
