Following Speaker Lusaka’s declaration of a vacant seat in the Senate, IEBC proceeded and gazetted the name of former Samburu Senator Sammy Prisa Leshore to replace Mwaura.

Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has weighed in on the tribulation facing Isaac Mwaura at the Senate, noting that if his ouster is upheld, he’ll be awarded with a lucrative post after the 2022 general election.

In a tweet on Wednesday, Khalwale; a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto noted that Mwaura will be appointed Senate Speaker if he’s successfully ousted.

He accused Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka, Jubilee Party leadership and the IEBC of ganging up against Mwaura and disrespecting court orders.

“If the conundrum of malicious attempts (by Speaker Lusaka, H.E Uhuru, Jubilee Party, IEBC and Government Printer) to revoke Hon Mwaura's senatorial nomination finally plays out to his detriment, then after the 2022 General Elections we shall appoint him the speaker of the Senate,” he tweeted.

On Tuesday, Mwaura lost his Senate seat after Speaker Lusaka issued a gazette notice declaring it vacant.

“It is notified for the information of the general public that pursuant to Article 103 (1) (e) (i) of the Constitution and section 37 of the Elections Act, the seat of the Member of the Senate elected under Article 98 (1) (d) of the Constitution and held by Hon. Isaac Mwaura Maigua became vacant, with effect from the 7th May 2021. Dated the 10th May 2021,” the gazette notice read in part.

Following Speaker Lusaka’s declaration, IEBC proceeded and gazette the name of former Samburu Senator Sammy Prisa Leshore to replace Mwaura.

Mwaura, has, however, obtained a court order stopping Speaker Lusaka from declaring his seat vacant.
