President Ruto told the police bosses that they are responsible for the lives of all Kenyans.

On Friday, March 31, President William Ruto held a meeting with Police Inspector General Japheth Koome and other top ranking police seniors. 

This was a day after the opposition protests turned chaotic with a section of Kenyans condemning police for the brutality meted out on protestors and journalists. 

The meeting is said to have centred on the conduct of the police who have lately meted brutality on those participating in the mass action protests and the journalists covering the events.

The president reportedly cautioned the police bosses over the deaths and destruction of property that has been reported since the inaugural protests on March 20.

Ruto, according to sources, called on the officers to adhere to the tenets of the rule of law while on duty.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua while addressing a church faithful in Kakamega on Saturday said the government would not relent in taking on the demonstrators destroying property and threatening lives.

He said the Monday protests would be the last one as the government would be "asserting its authority."

“This is no longer demonstrating. It is post-election violence characterized by mugging, looting, and violent robberies. The government will assert its authority in protecting lives and property and enforcing the rule of law,” the DP stated.
