Meanwhile, Nairobi County and most parts of the country have been receiving lots of rain in the past few days.

In the city, the rain has rendered some roads impassable and created traffic snarl ups on major roads as most people have resorted to using private cars as opposed to public means of transport.

According to the Kenya Meteorological department, the heavy rains experienced in the country over the past few days are expected to reduce over the weekend.

“Heavy rainfall more than 30mm within 24 hours which has been observed over some parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central Rift Valley, the Northwest, the South-eastern Lowlands, the Northeast and the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi County from the beginning of this week is likely to reduce its intensities over most parts of the Country from today Friday and tomorrow Saturday.

“Due to already high-water levels in some rivers and other water retention areas, it is likely that the rains may cause flooding over flood plains and other areas not well drained. Mudslides and landslides are also likely to occur on hilly areas of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley and the Highlands East of the Rift Valley due to already saturated soils,” the met department said in its update on Friday morning.
