Khalwale's remarks irked Malala who lashed out at him accusing him of working with opponents.

Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale on Tuesday narrowly cheated death after he was attacked by rowdy youths in Matungu, Kakamega county.

This came after the Senator had addressed a joint Kenya Kwanz a rally that was attended by Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala and his running mate Beatrice Inyangala.

While addressing the rally, the Senator failed to campaign for Senator Malala's governor bid.

He left the option open for residents to choose between Malala and OMD candidate Fernandes Barasa.

Khalwale, however, campaigned for himself saying is the best-known legislator across the country.

"My people, I am Khalwale. I want you to know that I come from Kakamega, Malala comes from Kakamega and Fernandes from Kakamega," he said.

"All of us are seeking seats. Weigh us and pick whoever you want for any seat. Choose one who will care for you. Remember Khalwale is the best legislator in Kenya. "

The remarks irked Malala who lashed out at him accusing him of working with opponents.

Malala divulged that he is the next Governor of Kakamega county and told off Khalwale for appearing to back his opponents.

"What is he saying now. He is confused. Stop being confused. This is my stronghold. If you have started eating from both sides of the political divide, say."
