Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has accused CS Matiang'i of taking DP Ruto's role of receiving the President and introducing him to other guests.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is today expected to chair a Cabinet meeting at the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Law Enforcement Academy in Manyani, Taita Taveta County.

During the meeting, the President is expected to receive progress reports of several national security sector technology projects and preside over an innovation exhibition by young Kenyan techies.

A few hours ago, the President arrived in Manyani and was received by several top leaders including Deputy President William Ruto and Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i.

In photos shared by State House, Dr Matiang’i is seen standing next to the presidential chopper as the first recipient of the president, while the DP is seen standing a few metres away as the second recipient.

As the Deputy President, many expected him to be the first recipient, but that did not happen, proving that the alleged rift between Ruto and President Kenyatta is indeed escalating.

Murkomen reacts to the photos

Reacting to the photos, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen mocked Dr Matiang’i terming him the ‘Deputy President’, as he’d taken over the role of welcoming the president and introducing him to other leaders including DP Ruto.

He likened the occurrence to that of the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta’s last days in power.

“The Deputy President Fred Matiang’i receiving the President thereafter introducing other Cabinet members.  Those of us who didn’t witness the last days of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta ‘will see things’ in the next 22 months,” he tweeted.
