  • A section of DP Ruto's allies in the National Assembly are reportedly working on a plan to impeach CS Matiang'i.

Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi has weighed in on calls for impeachment of Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i, noting that there are sufficient grounds for Parliament to kick him out.

In a Tweet on Sunday night, Havi accused Matiang’i of disobeying court orders, arguing that Parliament can use that as one of the grounds to impeach him.

According to Havi, impeaching the Interior CS shouldn’t be a tough task since other state officers like governors have been sent home for “lesser violations”.

“It should not be an uphill task for the National Assembly to impeach CS Dr Fred Matiangi. There are thousands of court orders which he has disobeyed. In one, the Court found that he is unsuitable to hold public office. Governors have been impeached for lesser violations,” he said.

Havi’s remarks comes after a section of MPs allied to Deputy President William Ruto threatened to impeach CS Matiang'i over what they term as excessive use of force in the recently concluded by-elections.

Last week, reports emerged indicating that Belgut Member of Parliament Nelson Koech was mandated with collecting signatures from fellow MPs to initiate the ouster process.

Koech alleged that their camp has already reached out to MPs within ODM Leader Raila Odinga’s circle, seeking support for their bid.

He accused Matiang’i of using police officers to intimidate politicians going up against Jubilee candidates.
