Thang'wa had been locked out of the race owing to his impeachment while serving as County Executive in Kiambu County.

IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati has clarified that they will heed a court order requiring them to clear UDA Kiambu Senate candidate Karungo Thang'wa.

Thang'wa had been locked out of the race owing to his impeachment while serving as County Executive in Kiambu County.

He however moved to the High Court where he obtained orders directing the IEBC to clear hum.

But on Sunday, eyebrows were raised after the IEBC gazetted list of those who will be vying in the coming polls.

Thang'wa's name was missing.

Speculations emerged that the IEBC might have ignored the court order.

However, on Monday, Chebukati confirmed receipt of the court order and said they will be clearing him to vie.

He said they will form a corrigendum Notice to gazette Thang'wa as the Senate candidate.

“The other matter related to Thang’wa, I think that we have received a court order, and I'm sure the Returning officer has complied with that court order, and in a case like that we shall prepare a corrigendum to the gazette notice,” he said.

The court ruling handed Thang'wa a political lifeline considering he had been locked out for good.

Another aspirant fighting for his name to be on the ballot is former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko.

Sonko was denied clearance because of his impeachment while serving as a governor.
