A school principal is in trouble after a man he hired to restore electricity cut out by KPLC was electrocuted.

A school principal is in trouble after a man he hired to illegally reconnect electricity at the institution was electrocuted.

The Kameji Secondary School, Rongo Sub-County, principal is said to have personally called the man to go to the school and restore the electricity connection after it was cut off by officers from the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC).

The man since identified as Phelix Okoth Odoyo was electrocuted when he climbed an electricity pole within the school compound in a bid to reconnect the power.

"I blame the principal because as you see this is a school compound. The man will not have come into the school to fix the electricity without the approval of the principal," a villager noted.

Odoyo's family demanded an explanation from the school administration, questioning how the school will allowed him to come and fix the electricity.

A relative, Charles Odhiambo stated that Odoyo is not a certified electrician because he lacks papers, pointing an accusing finger at the principal for allowing a layman to reconnect electricity.

According to Odhiambo, Odoyo had been offered Ksh500 for the task.

Following the tragic incident, the principal contacted the area chief John Agoro, who responded to the scene.

Odhiambo further highlighted that some of the electrical wirings done within the school's classrooms and dormitories are very risky.

He urged KPLC to investigate the connectivity within the learning premises and prevent a future incident.
