The family of former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete has rubbished social media reports claimed that he is dead.

In a statement on Twitter, Kikwete’s son Ridhiwani Kikwete noted that the claims are baseless, adding that his father is in good condition.

According to Ridhiwani, his father is not suffering from any ailments at the moment.

He has requested Tanzanians to ignore such alarming and unconfirmed reports.


“Baada ya kupokea Simu na Jumbe mbalimbali nimeona nitumie nafasi hii kuweka kumbukizi sawa. Mzee wetu na Mzazi wetu Dr. @jmkikwete yupo salama wa Afya Nyingi sana. Hana tatizo lolote kiafya na anaendelea na majukumu yake. Taarifa za aina yeyote ni za Kipuuzi na za kupuuzwa,” he tweeted.

Mzee Jakaya Kikwete served as Tanzania’s President from 2005 to 2015.

During his tenure, Tanzanian made huge development and economic strides that have now pushed it to become a power house in East and Central Africa.

After leaving power, Kikwete has maintained a low profile only making public appearances when necessary.

He was recently given a new house by the Tanzanian government as part of his retirement package as a former President of the nation.

The house was presented by President Samia Suluhu who promised to make sure that Kikwete’s needs are well taken care of.
