Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko says he does not agree with the supreme court ruling that upheld his impeachment.
The Supreme Court on Friday, July 15, upheld the impeachment of the former Nairobi governor Sonko, dealing a big blow to his political career.
The ruling meant Sonko would not be cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to contest for the Mombasa gubernatorial seat.
Responding to the ruling on Saturday, July 16, Sonko claimed that the judgement was not fair.
The former Nairobi Governor faulted Chief Justice Martha Koome alleging that she was compromised.

"Sikubaliani na maamuzi ya mahakama; kuna ukora ulitumika kunidhulumu. Martha Koome alikua kwa TV akisema Sonko hafai kusimama naye ndo mwenye sheria. She said an impeached governor remains impeached until the case is overturned.
“She was at fault because contrary to the law, the fact that she is a Supreme Court judge, she was not supposed to be in my case ruling, she already had an opinion that I am not supposed to be a governor and in the IEBC list," Sonko said.
According to Sonko, CJ Koome should not have been part of the judges making the ruling since she already had an opinion.
On his Mombasa gubernatorial quest, Sonko insisted that he would be on the ballot.
"Sheria itaniruhusu nikue kwa debe," he said.

In the ruling issued on Friday, the supremer court ruled that Sonko was properly impeached.
"The impeachment proceedings before the County Assembly and the Senate were properly conducted in accordance with Article 181 of the Constitution, Section 33 of the County Governments Act, and Standing Orders of the Assembly and the Senate.
"The appellant was accorded adequate time and facility to respond to the charges against him both at the county assembly and in the Senate," the ruling read in part.
